Today marked the true beginning of our candidates’ long journey towards the election. While it might be far in the future, it's still important for the candidates to make a name for themselves, and their bio speeches are a perfect first impression, one that the people of America have been looking forward too.
Excitement ran high in B212 as the candidates lined up and prepared to share who they are and their plans for the future. Anticipation and chatter filled the room as the candidates prepared to share their platforms.
The room fell silent as the first candidate, the democrat Bennett Soloman took the stage, who shared his credentials and his desire to conquer change for the people of America. Following Bennett came Grace Cabral, the moderate democrat from Florida. She kept her objectives general, but promised that only the best will come with her campaign. Next came Logan Glazier, the Florida based republican who spoke slowly and confidently, speaking of his difficult past. Finally, he concluded with his goal for progress, saying “the time for progress is not tomorrow, not next week, not next month or next year. The time for progress is now.” Following Logan came Mizuki Brent, who took a similar angle to logan, speaking of her background and the struggles that she faced. She ended her speech by explaining her priorities consist of rebuilding the economy as well as promoting equality of opportunity. Up next was moderate republican Gideon Helf. He talked of his desire to cooperate with the people says “I’m a republican willing to compromise with Democrats if it means making our nation a better, happier, safer place.” He ended his speech by driving home the point that to him, what matters most in our nation is the people. Finally, Ali Hammoud began his speech with great volume and confidence. He was the only candidate that took the stage without a speech to read off of. He spoke in an almost conversational way, speaking of his plans and goals.
All the candidates received healthy applause after their speeches, despite not one of them staying within the 30 second maximum allotted time. Nevertheless, the audience loved every second of it, and resumed it’s excited chatter right as the candidates were finished.
I managed to get an interview with Jack Dobbins, one of the various members of the crowd. When asked who he felt had the strongest bio speech, he said “Gideons was the strongest to me, he spoke directly to us like we were equals, and I appreciated that.”
Now with the candidates names out in the open, its up to them and their teams to keep pushing their agendas and maintain their strong starts. Stay tuned for upcoming reports from The Daily Derenberger!
